Executive Summary

Construction robotics is a machine that senses, thinks, and acts specifically for tasks at construction sites. It has been emerging and is expected to be further deployed over construction sites. To successfully implement robotics in a construction project, it is crucial to have structured and strategic planning. This guide provides a procedure for planning broken down into six steps:

  1. Set Goals
  2. Identify Opportunities
  3. Evaluate Solutions
  4. Make Decision
  5. Communicate Plan
  6. Improve Implementation

The guide's six steps are described. Step 1 is Set Goals, and the two bullet points below Step 1 are Stakeholder analysis and Establish Goals. Step 2 is Identify Opportunities, and the two bullet points below Step 2 are Identify tasks and Identify robotics for tasks. Step 3 is Evaluate Solutions, and the two bullet points below Step 3 are Create implementation plan and Trades buy-in and discuss risk. Step 4 is Make Decision, and the three bullet points below Step 4 are Identify cost and savings model, Choose By Advantage (CBA), and Risk analysis. Step 5 is Communicate Plan, and the one bullet point below Step 5 is Ensure understanding of plans for all stakeholders. Step 6 is Improve Implementation, and the three bullet points below Step 6 are Record performance, Review (PDCA), and Document for future use.

By following these steps, the user of this guide and his/her project team can stimulate planning, execution, and communication. There is no single perfect plan for robotics implementation. It is important that the project team develops a tailored plan to achieve their goals through robotics implementation.
