El verbo Ir

Future Actions, Where are you going?

  • Ir is an irregular verb used in Spanish to express to go.
      • Voy a la clase. I am going to class.

     

  • The first person plural, nosotros, is also used to express let’s go.
      • Vamos a la clase de español. We go to Spanish class.

     

  • The verb ir is followed by the preposition a to indicate where someone is going (to).
      • Rosa va a la biblioteca.

     

  • When a is followed by el (masculine definite article), it contracts to ala + el = al.

 

  • Jorgeva al gimnasio. (el gimnasio)
      • Nosotros vamos al hospital. (el hospital)
