Chapter 8 Objectives

This chapter showcases to students a range of discoveries from scientific ocean drilling expeditions from the beginning (the Legs of Glomar Challenger) through JOIDES Resolution and continuing expeditions.

Learning Objectives for Chapter 8: Select Scientific Ocean Drilling Discoveries

After reviewing the content in this chapter and completing the exercises, students will be able to:

  • Identify significant scientific advances from expeditions over time
  • Understand how scientific ocean drilling expeditions are relevant to society
  • Describe how scientific ocean drilling is one approach and technology to our understanding of the deep sea
