Introduction

Initial contact with a potential client will likely be via phone or email. I do not recommend providing advice this way, particularly if it is quick and not thoroughly thought out. It is much better to have a client come to your office or meet with them via teleconference. This way you can have a much more fruitful conversation to obtain all of the facts so that you can provide them with competent, accurate advice. You will also significantly reduce the potential for a malpractice claim.

In this Unit, I discuss that first meeting and provide advice as to how to establish a rapport with potential clients. Additionally, I discuss the importance of listening and how to train oneself to be a better listener.
